My name is Joan McMillan and this blog is, as Emily Dickinson says, "my letter to the world." I am currently working on a nonfiction book about the murder of a young woman, Asha Veil, born Joanna Dragunowicz, and her unborn daughter, Anina, on September 9, 2006. My book is meant to honor her life and illuminate the need to create a safer world for women and children.

Thistle in Her Bower
I have to remember that this little girl is more precious than a million classes, writing groups, and anything else that I have lost in the last few months. This is what I have: a child, my grandchild and daughter. Dance classes will one day end, writing groups will disband, and people will depart and flicker out with few to remember them. But this little girl is my legacy and through her, I will live on--in her memory, in the passing of my DNA, in family stories. and in the love which never ends.
