My name is Joan McMillan and this blog is, as Emily Dickinson says, "my letter to the world." I am currently working on a nonfiction book about the murder of a young woman, Asha Veil, born Joanna Dragunowicz, and her unborn daughter, Anina, on September 9, 2006. My book is meant to honor her life and illuminate the need to create a safer world for women and children.

Katherine of Aragon
Reading Alison Weir's The Six Wives of Henry VIII, just finishing the section on Henry's first wife, Katherine of Aragon. She loved Henry so deeply, and I was touched by her final letter to him, particularly the last line, the very last words she would write on earth:
"Lastly, I make this vow: that mine eyes desire you above all things."
Really sad...upon reading this, Henry broke down and wept.
