My name is Joan McMillan and this blog is, as Emily Dickinson says, "my letter to the world." I am currently working on a nonfiction book about the murder of a young woman, Asha Veil, born Joanna Dragunowicz, and her unborn daughter, Anina, on September 9, 2006. My book is meant to honor her life and illuminate the need to create a safer world for women and children.

Bipolar Likely
Diagnosing bipolar tendencies is not my realm, but I have been concerned for years now about someone whom I know has definitely one serious problem and seems to go hypomanic from time to time...you can tell he is in that phase right now. I wish his family and friends would suggest he get a workup from a good psychiatrist: bipolar gets worse over time, and I cannot suggest it myself as there is no way he would listen to me. I wish there was not such a stigma about these things: shame and prejudice block the way for real health and change.
