My name is Joan McMillan and this blog is, as Emily Dickinson says, "my letter to the world." I am currently working on a nonfiction book about the murder of a young woman, Asha Veil, born Joanna Dragunowicz, and her unborn daughter, Anina, on September 9, 2006. My book is meant to honor her life and illuminate the need to create a safer world for women and children.

Secret
As a coda to the last post and why I unfortunately seem to know a few people with some really screwed-up mindsets who spill secrets to me: I can be very disarming, and sometimes think people want to confess things, and I look and act rather accepting. Also, I live in Santa Cruz and my circles are writers and the dance community, which have their fair share of oddballs and predatory behavior. I would rather not come across such individuals, but at least I can write about the experience, if only to help others.
