It is not good for me to be sleepless in this way. I have been up all night, worried about my daughter. I do not know where she sleeps tonight. These worries are terrible for my physical and mental health.
We all have someone in our lives whom we worry about. It is a strange consolation, knowing others are awake at this hour, our prayers for our beloved floating like sparks into the shadows.
My name is Joan McMillan and this blog is, as Emily Dickinson says, "my letter to the world." I am currently working on a nonfiction book about the murder of a young woman, Asha Veil, born Joanna Dragunowicz, and her unborn daughter, Anina, on September 9, 2006. My book is meant to honor her life and illuminate the need to create a safer world for women and children.
