Shekinah Mountainwater, 1939-2007

One of the founders of the Goddess movement (and a local treasure), Shekinah Mountainwater, has crossed over. One of my dance teachers took part in her caregiving at the end. I am so sorry I never took advantage of Shekinah's many workshops and gatherings, and I hope to study her writings and work on mythology and spirituality. The Sentinel has a great story on her (albeit with a picture that didn't do justice to her, so I will include one here).

When my women's ritual circle meets, we sometimes sing a song that I was happily surprised to find was one of Shekinah's:

We are the flow and we are the ebb,
we are the weaver, we are the web

I hope that when I leave this earth one day, I am surrounded by love and many friends as this woman was as she crossed over. In honor of her, I also ordered a copy of Ariadne's Thread, Shekinah's wonderful book on Goddess spirituality--somewhat fitting that I will be getting a used copy that has passed through some other person's hands.

I also find it amazingly fit that Shekinah, who did a great deal of work and study concerning Hecate, died just a day before the dark of the moon.
