A Haiku for Needing to Keep My Enrollment at 25 Students
(or: "No Room at the Inn")
First day of my class:
so many folks wish to add!
They cannot join us.
(I know it's an awful haiku--mine are deliberately so)
My name is Joan McMillan and this blog is, as Emily Dickinson says, "my letter to the world." I am currently working on a nonfiction book about the murder of a young woman, Asha Veil, born Joanna Dragunowicz, and her unborn daughter, Anina, on September 9, 2006. My book is meant to honor her life and illuminate the need to create a safer world for women and children.

I wish I could say
no more easily; all those
papers to grade. Ugh.
Everybody wants
to take Strega's, Kate's classes --
Mine has four students.
