My name is Joan McMillan and this blog is, as Emily Dickinson says, "my letter to the world." I am currently working on a nonfiction book about the murder of a young woman, Asha Veil, born Joanna Dragunowicz, and her unborn daughter, Anina, on September 9, 2006. My book is meant to honor her life and illuminate the need to create a safer world for women and children.

I Knew a Predator
It has been an incredible week for Ms. Strega. I have gone on chemotherapy for lupus, have had to take a leave from my job, and I have lost the dearest, sweetest friend I ever had in my life because I found out he has a sick attraction to very young women (he's 54 and when I confronted him, he said that he had, "most of the time", control over his problem, had been proactive about getting therapy, and had a "slip" which was MY FAULT.
MY FAULT because a few days before, realizing the horror of what he was and that I had him infiltrate my entire life, I confronted him. It was sickening: this wasn't a guy whose head was turned by a young, pretty girl. This was a man who "groomed" a young woman for an ENTIRE YEAR,
