The first flowers of spring have arrived...a coven of wild yellow irises in the meadow below my house. Next, blue irises in a few weeks. In the garden, the roses have begun to bud out, and Thistle and I have planted pumpkins, Titan sunflowers, and dark purple poppies so far...we hope all the seeds sprout! Thistle has a little flowerpot "garden" consisting of one or two pumpkin seeds which she waters several times a day...I may sneak a miniature sunflower and some nasturtiums in, too. So many writers seem to need a garden...even a window box...as if the two inspire each other.
My name is Joan McMillan and this blog is, as Emily Dickinson says, "my letter to the world." I am currently working on a nonfiction book about the murder of a young woman, Asha Veil, born Joanna Dragunowicz, and her unborn daughter, Anina, on September 9, 2006. My book is meant to honor her life and illuminate the need to create a safer world for women and children.
