I spent my Mother's Day in Urgent Care, dealing with an apocalyptic flare up of sciactica. When I say apocalyptic, I mean it. The night before, CG came to check on me and spent the night on the couch to help me, so frightened was he when he saw me...I needed help in the bathroom, and needed help with Thistle. I woke to hot blueberry oatmeal and coffee. I am so grateful for him. He has never abandoned me.
At Urgent Care, I was experiencing so much pain that the doctor ordered up a huge dose of morphine for me; I could barely walk or talk after it,and slept most of the evening.
The doctor said that the morphine was to break the pain cycle so my other lupus meds could work. The sciactica is apparently due to lupus.
It is getting to be a hard road for me now, yet I do feel connected to life. Pain syndromes really suck...I have lived with them for more than twenty years. I am amazed I have done so much despite it.
Anyway, goodnight!
My name is Joan McMillan and this blog is, as Emily Dickinson says, "my letter to the world." I am currently working on a nonfiction book about the murder of a young woman, Asha Veil, born Joanna Dragunowicz, and her unborn daughter, Anina, on September 9, 2006. My book is meant to honor her life and illuminate the need to create a safer world for women and children.
