I went to the Redwood Mountain Faire alone, and was absolutely fine and felt happy all day. CG felt that the Faire (which brings in thousands of people) was going to be too much for Thistle. I had disagreed, as she was so excited about seeing her uncle, but the kibosh was put on this very firmly and they went off to buy clothes for Thistle. In all fairness, the Redwood Mountain Faire used to be held in a fairly hot, crowded place and we had no idea what the new venue was like. I am happy to say that it was very fun and very kid-friendly, with a whole kids section, including bands playing kids' music, bouncy houses, etc. Next year I will definitely take her. I saw many friends there, old and new, which is one of the fun things about festivals. It was not bad at all to be there by myself.
I did get to see my son play in his band, Pure Roots; they were FANTASTIC! They did covers of "Stir it Up" and "Fever" which were great, and I spent the performance dancing and singing along (subtly so as not to embarrass my son). There were other "band moms" in the audience, a few partners, and lots of friends of the band. Later my son and I went over to watch Aztec dancers and have some lunch. I see him often, but this was the first time I had seen him in Pure Roots. He told me he's nearly done with his music degree from Cabrillo College and is going to try and transfer somewhere (he was being a bit mysterious about it). I realized again how nice it is to hang out with my adult children.
Unfortunately, my phone was out of juice, so I have no pics or videos from today. However, I will leave you with a video of the band at a local venue, Moe's Alley. My son is the guy with the long hair and the plaid shirt.
