Lasat night, or rather early this morning, resting with my eyes shut, I heard the word "czesc"
spoken very clearly at my right side and felt a tug on my blanket.
(sorry, can't put the proper accents in with a Kindle keyboard). It didn't freak me out as much as I might have thought, but I turned on a dim bedside light and slept that way for the rest of the night. "Czesc" means "hello" in Polish, and I am writing a book about the murder of a Polish immigrant.
My name is Joan McMillan and this blog is, as Emily Dickinson says, "my letter to the world." I am currently working on a nonfiction book about the murder of a young woman, Asha Veil, born Joanna Dragunowicz, and her unborn daughter, Anina, on September 9, 2006. My book is meant to honor her life and illuminate the need to create a safer world for women and children.
