My name is Joan McMillan and this blog is, as Emily Dickinson says, "my letter to the world." I am currently working on a nonfiction book about the murder of a young woman, Asha Veil, born Joanna Dragunowicz, and her unborn daughter, Anina, on September 9, 2006. My book is meant to honor her life and illuminate the need to create a safer world for women and children.

Grief and the Holidays
In the course of writing about Asha, i have come across people who still grieve her. The depth of grief often matches the depth of love for the person. Whether you are grieving the loss of a love, have a death in the family, or are spending the holiday alone, here are a few links to resources that might help, a little. Some of my friends who do not have family or don't want to be the person without a partner in a gathering go to volunteer serving Thanksgiving dinner to homeless people or veterans; there are often planned events for this, so check with your local homeless and veteran's resources if you want to do this.
