Sadness again upon going to the Tannery, the memorial for Madyson beginning to thin out a little: plants removed, candles slowly being taken away. Thistle today looked at the pile of toys heaped near the cafe; she did not ask what they were for.
When Madyson was still missing, but not yet found, Thistle and I did our very favorite summertime activity: we went to the beach. I tried to keep the news of the missing girl away from Thistle, but unfortunately, there were missing posters everywhere, and she can read. I explained to her that the little girl had just perhaps gone off to play
My name is Joan McMillan and this blog is, as Emily Dickinson says, "my letter to the world." I am currently working on a nonfiction book about the murder of a young woman, Asha Veil, born Joanna Dragunowicz, and her unborn daughter, Anina, on September 9, 2006. My book is meant to honor her life and illuminate the need to create a safer world for women and children.
