would the rain never end?

I think there's a line in one of the Winnie-the-Pooh stories which says something like, "down, down down..would the rain NEVER end?" I do want to let my readers know that we are staying warm and dry during these blustery and gray, gray days, though our road is officially blocked on one end for the next few months due to a giant sinkhole that opened up over a culvert. It's right in front of some nice fellow's driveway, so I am glad they found the sinkhole before he drove his truck into it. To make matters more fun, last night a tree fell across the other access road, so we were quite cut off for awhile. Trees are falling like crazy right now, as the ground is saturated. Also last night, Mr. Strega and I were driving home on Highway Nine, rounded a bend, and had to come to a sudden stop to avoid a gentleman who had run his truck into a fallen tree.
There are slip-outs and mudslides large and small all over the county; I've broken out my kerosene lamps--I've had one of these for over twenty-three years--as well as all the candles in the house, including my veladoras (the saints candles you can buy at grocery stores), which are good for extended power failures.

Deciding that stronger measures are in order to keep my family happy, I made wonderful brownies (from Ruth Reichl's book Tender at the Bone)--now the house smells like I've lit some incredible, magical chocolate incense. It's not sunlight, but it helps!

I'm donning my hiking boots to go down and look at the creek...which will, I am sure, be the color of chocolate, too!
