On the way to the alma mater today, I saw an electronic billboard that said, "Second Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina...65% of New Orleans Schools Still Closed...A National Disgrace." A strong reminder that our help is still sorely needed.
Click on the link for a good basic news story about Katrina. And please continue to give to Hurricane Katrina relief. Here is a link to one charity still working actively for Katrina recovery:

Please don't forget our neighbors in New Orleans and other areas still affected by the aftermath of Katrina. Here is another organization, started by a man from Santa Cruz, which makes regular runs down to New Orleans and other areas affected by Katrina and other natural disasters:

My name is Joan McMillan and this blog is, as Emily Dickinson says, "my letter to the world." I am currently working on a nonfiction book about the murder of a young woman, Asha Veil, born Joanna Dragunowicz, and her unborn daughter, Anina, on September 9, 2006. My book is meant to honor her life and illuminate the need to create a safer world for women and children.
