There will be a memorial vigil for Asha and Anina Veil on Sunday, September 9, 2007 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., marking the one-year anniversary of their deaths. Please click on the link to see the information so far. Wear white blouses or shirts and bring a flashlight (we cannot have candles at the memorial due to the extremely high fire danger this year).
I am so glad our community is gathering for this. Asha and Anina's deaths have broken our community's collective hearts.
We need a gathering like this to show that this woman and the baby she so deeply wanted and looked forward to mothering are not forgotten. They have been gone nearly a year...and no arrest so far, though I am sure--at least I want to believe with all my heart--that the investigation is moving forward. All I can say is their lives mattered, and I hope there is a large turnout to show that we have not forgotten.
It's coming to the end of summer...a fitting time to remember that life is a circle, that all things pass away eventually, and that we are part of a continuum, some of which we do not understand or see. I was thinking of this as I photographed a sunflower that grew in a most graceful arc over my deck (I photographed it from underneath).
