A friend writes me and tells me he admires me for not succumbing to grief(he knows well the situation I was in as he was a mutual friend). I told him about the three prophetic dreams I had that warned me of what was coming...and told him I was like someone who gets shot and keeps walking in shock. He said he hoped no one would ever treat me in that way again, nor hold me to standards no human being could live up to.
That is how it is. One day I will realize that I am walking and the wound has disappeared. Progress, not perfection.
My name is Joan McMillan and this blog is, as Emily Dickinson says, "my letter to the world." I am currently working on a nonfiction book about the murder of a young woman, Asha Veil, born Joanna Dragunowicz, and her unborn daughter, Anina, on September 9, 2006. My book is meant to honor her life and illuminate the need to create a safer world for women and children.
