Thistle's preschool has been undergoing a renovation, which includes an AWESOME loft for the kids, with Plexiglass windows. Apparently, Thistle--fascinated with the fact that I have a writing group--has started a writing group at preschool that meets in the loft. I thought she was joking, but her teacher said the kids have been taking it very seriously, bringing their drawings and attempts at spelling up to the loft and talking about them. and sometimes they just sit and draw and spell words together, like a prompt group. The teachers are really enjoying it.
I can just hear it now: "Your stick figures aren't doing much to advance the plot. Maybe you should sprinkle some glitter on the paper to heighten interest. Ok, pass the graham crackers."
I think I've been a rather interesting influence on my granddaughter.
My name is Joan McMillan and this blog is, as Emily Dickinson says, "my letter to the world." I am currently working on a nonfiction book about the murder of a young woman, Asha Veil, born Joanna Dragunowicz, and her unborn daughter, Anina, on September 9, 2006. My book is meant to honor her life and illuminate the need to create a safer world for women and children.
