Thistle and I made a field trip to a lovely rose nursery near a house where I used to live. I wish my camera had been working, as she looked so cute in the rose garden. I wish I had taken my kids up there when they were young...such a fun place! The owner helped me find two beautiful roses, Intrigue and Sombrueil, both highly fragranced. We took them home and will go buy big pots for them tomorrow. They are lovely birthday presents for myself, like taking a bit of the wild and beautiful place back home with me.
Here are some stock photos, though I would like to post some of Intrigue tomorrow, as she is in bloom. Intrigue is the purple one; Sombrueil, the white. Intrigue's lemony rose fragrance is very powerful and still scents the inside of my car! Imagine how pretty these two would look in a vase together.
My name is Joan McMillan and this blog is, as Emily Dickinson says, "my letter to the world." I am currently working on a nonfiction book about the murder of a young woman, Asha Veil, born Joanna Dragunowicz, and her unborn daughter, Anina, on September 9, 2006. My book is meant to honor her life and illuminate the need to create a safer world for women and children.
